About Terry:
Terry Willis, Hertfordshire based author, has been an avid reader all her life and after a long, successful career in teaching she has progressed into writing story and poetry books for children. Throughout her teaching life Terry wrote many plays for school productions. She also integrated her love of poetry through the school curriculum, which even today, some of her ex-students still refer to.
Terry now finds herself on a different path in life, taking her skills and love literature and poetry into wonderfully colourful and endearing children’s stories.
“Being involved with teaching and educating makes one think. I believe that poetry and speaking/ performing aloud can have a significant impact. I think, also, that rhyme helps pupils learning to read. I like to write in rhyme.”
Like Terry’s recent work, ‘The Tale of Rusty The Squirrel’ and ‘A Book Of Poems About Minecraft’, her new books are also written in fun rhyme.
“Children like humour and a healthy mix of rhyme, poetry, drama and theatre are excellent vehicles to encourage children to speak aloud. There are then further benefits because this whole aspect of learning can make children more articulate and improve self- confidence and self-esteem.
Terry has based her work on the people who influence her the most; the many children that have, do and continue to inspire her.
